Jen Turano has taken a very bold step and is releasing her very first contemporary novel (all her books up to this point have been set in the Gilded Age). I am always nervous when an author switches genres, however, I feel that Jen made the transition very well. This book has a very different feel from her other books, which should be expected considering the setting. Yet Jen’s classic style is embedded into every word.
When Margo has had enough of the drama revolving around her life, she runs off on her own. I don’t blame her for just wanting room to breathe and think clearly for 5 minutes. It was fun to see how God’s hand guided her to where she needed to be. God used the circumstances for His glory. And I can’t help but be reminded how often the ideas that we have for our life, the paths we decide to walk down (or are dragged down kicking and screaming), God can take and use for His purpose, no matter how far away from home we get.
There is plenty of humour and mystery to be found while sprinkled with romance. Finding Margo is less about finding where Margo has run off too, and more about finding who she is. I am looking forward to seeing Jen’s talent grow in this new genre.
