There comes a sad point in every mystery aficionado’s life when they finally reach the end of the Agatha Christie canon. When Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot become cliche and the “who done it” turns into a disappointed “oh, I know this plot.”
As all of the writers in the Golden Age of Crime are dead, there’s a very slim chance that the world will see more of their works.
Enter L.B. Hathaway and Miss Posie Parker.
L.B. Hathaway is a British writer who picks up the mantle left by Christie and adds a new touch of glamor. Miss Posie Parker is a detective with courage, insecurities, and the unfortunate habit of falling in love with exactly the wrong man. And an incredible knack for solving mysteries that baffle Scotland Yard.
Fresh from the trenches of WW1, Posie Parker leaves her job as an ambulance driver and becomes a detective in 1920s London. In “”Murder Onstage,”” we are introduced to a wonderful cast of characters – Counts, Chorus girls, and all sorts of British nobilities. We also see Posie’s brain at work, solving mysteries and repairing relationships that elude the police.
There are five books in the Posie Parker series so far and all of them are addicting. Hold on tight, because they’ll have you guessing until the end with tight plot twists at the very last curve. Hathaway has a way of making characters get under your skin – as I read the fifth book, I wanted to throw the book across the room when I read (OH NO HE DIDN’T!).
L.B. Hathaway’s book are available on Kindle or as paperbacks. In either form, they are the perfect cozy mysteries to keep your attention at the beach or curled up by the fire.
