I have read the first couple books in the Women of the West series and I couldn’t wait to get into this one! Kathleen Y’Barbo creates amazing characters and has a wonderful writing style; Charlotte is stubborn, snarky, and sometimes annoying, but she also has another side: caring, intelligent, and spirited. Her relationship with her father is really entertaining, especially when she is trying to pool the wool over his eyes- to no avail. Besides the development of the characters, I liked the dialogue which fit perfectly with the book and the time period, (1880′s), and kept me laughing.

Thanks for offering that Steve. I’ve talked with Kerry and this but since I’ve written commentaries on the the Saga in relation to current events, it seemed best to go on and tell the whole story. Even so, new readers will still have to immerse themselves in Sandfly’s narrative to appreciate the story.

The Dark Trench Saga is one of the best trilogies I’ve ever read. Your readers would be doing themselves a big favor by picking up or downloading the books. Since your review is for the third book it gives away some things that the reader of the first two books will not want to know just yet. You may want to add that this review is a spoiler of books one and two. One of the cool things about Kerry’s storytelling and writing is the way he slowly reveals the plot without losing any of the tension. Good review Tim.

I don’t have the book in front of me — so I’m going by memory here, but roughly, the band of them travel pretty far until they finally come to the land around Slathbog’s keep. It’s dead and gray and they sneak in through a secret entrance by a stream. Once inside the abandoned castle, they fight against Slathbog, who chases them down — spewing fire at them and such. I believe someone died during the battle, and Alex is the one who finally manages to defeat the dragon. That’s as best as I can remember it! Hope that helps!

Hi…i am an absolutely huge fan of the series…i don’t think you should change that much at all…the more they get hurt and the more you think their gonna die the better it is…but please please please don’t let any of them die…and keep Keal with them always i love him! and i personally think that doing an interview with Nana would just be plain boring…sure ask her some questions…but an interview no way! Maybe Phemus should actually come back and kidnap Toria…but then as David is screaming for her he slips through the portal before Xander can catch him…and they end up in the middle of the battle of Antietam…when David spots Phemus face first in the grass with Toria laying on top of him David makes a run for it scoops Toria up in his arms and runs as fast as he possibly can…you think of the rest for that…i just that would be suspenseful and show exactly how much David cares for his sister…..but remember no one is allowed to die

i read Song of the Ovulum a couple days ago and it was amazing! one of my guy friends were reading alll of the books by Mr. Davis and at first they looked stupid to me cuz they had things like dragons and stuff, but when i started reading it, i was instantly caught up in the story! Now im reading all of the books and i cant wait till he lets out book 2 in the Children of the Bard series!

Dark Eden… what is there to say about Dark Eden? Well, I know one thing for sure, it’s too amazing to capture its epicness in a Facebook comment. I really liked all the twists in the story. With other books, you can always figure out what’s coming up next, but Dark Eden is a whole different story. You can never tell what’s coming next, and this is a good thing! You get to the end of the book, and expect no more twists, or at least a small one, then this big humongonourmous one comes up and blows your socks off! You’re hyperventilating, your eyes are wide, you’re getting dizzy- “What was that!?” And then you’re reading it again. This is probably one of the best books I have read in a long time. It’s extremely amazing, it was written well, and the technology behind it makes it even better.

The app- WOW. I really like to be able to visualize something I’m reading, and the app does it for you! Using excerpts from the book, recording, videos, maps, and pictures to tell this amazing story all over again. It doesn’t just accompany it, it TELLS it. Which I have honestly never seen before. If I had to rate Dark Eden out of 10, I’d rate it a 10,000,000,000,000 and so on. Best book EVER!

I’m reading “Nightshade”. Started it yesterday & hope to finish within the hour. I read a review on Christian Books and in RT. Great review!!!! I loved the fast pace action, the story line & the way you bring Faith in without preaching at the reader. Going to call my favorite Indy store & have them order the others. I was able to find Wolfsbane at B&N but they didn’t have any other of your books in stock. I’ve found a new author to add to favorites list (where I give the authors names & they order books by name & not title ea month). I decided to check out this review based on the title of the book, The Leftovers and because of it’s Genre: Suspense. But what prompted my comment was the review itself. I want to thank you, Jen Roman, for your honest review and the reader advisory you provided.

More often times than not, I find that Book Reviewers only write reviews to promote the book, being mindful to eliminate any negativity associated with the book or it’s author.

When I’m considering reading a book, I prefer reading an honest review, I don’t like the misleading reviews with nothing but hype only to be let down once I’ve purchased the book. Although I know the ultimate opinion of the book is my own, I appreciate being able to get some honest feedback prior to purchasing a new read, especially when I’m unfamiliar with the author or their work.

Bottom-line, If its quality fiction, the author as well as the readers should want to receive honest and unbiased feedback. Complete objectivity should accompany any and every review.

Second, thank you for taking the time to read my review on Lisa See’s DREAMS OF JOY; which was indeed a wonderfully written piece of historical fiction – containing some detailed yet, disturbing facts about the Mao reign of terror, oops I meant Mao’s so-called “Great Leap Forward“; which I am in agreement with you, that it must have been a living nightmare for the Chinese. And for the compliment on my review.

Finally, if you have not already read SHANGHAI GIRLS, the prequel to DREAMS OF JOY, I would strongly recommend you do so for your reading enjoyment. In SHANGHAI GIRLS Lisa See again delves into the forgotten history in an extremely interesting manner – and the story-line tempo was far more upbeat, than that of DREAMS. You will become instantly invested in its story.

Just listening to your podcast after having finished Gravestone. This is an incredible story.
Anyway, someone in your podcast remember the new direction Travis said and suggested that the third book would come from someone else’s perspective. It hit me and blended with something I had picked up last night as I was reading Gravestone, though the comment above does share a good idea on this as well.
I’ve noticed how much Kelsey behaved like Chris in the first book with her accepting any foul behavior from Chris, and Chris to Kelsey like Jocelyn being aloof and then keeping Chris at a distance in the first book.
Chris inadvertantly helped Jocelyn come to faith and give her hope when she seemingly had given up.
Chris has now given up, and I can see that new viewpoint you suggested coming from Kelsey. I can see Chris in book three, very lonely, hopeless, isolated. Kelsey’s a member of a church outside of New Beginnings clutches, and I can see her try to chip away to help who she thinks is just a very sad Chris with encouragement and faith that brings him the hope that he needs to defeat the evil in Solitary which I would assume will happen in the fourth book.

This review has given me quite an interest in Mao’s “Great Leap Forward“- I still believe China holds some kind of unearned grudge against the United States. I don’t have a big interest in reading some dull history book on the subject, so I think I’ll pick up a copy of Dreams of Joy instead. I’m thinking it should be available at the library.

I just finished Hell’s Corner. Awesome plot, twists and turns, kept me on the edge of my seat. I just love it The idea of a female John Carr, brilliant. I was wondering if the parfume Oliver smelled on Marissa, is fictional? Something she got from Thailand, not sold in America. The loosely translated english name “two heart as one” I would love to purchase some if it’s real. If possible advise.

I haven’t read the second book, but the first is absolutely fantastic. You won’t be disappointed. Pat has such a poetic writing voice that is a delight to read. On top of that, the unique and fascinating world, and the utterly engaging character of Kvothe… well. It’s a must read.

I’ve met Eric and he is as real and honest as the storylines he chooses to address. His glimpse into the lives of the Vreelands stirs the question, “What would I do in a similar circumstance?” This is an enchanting book brimming with the type of gut-level issues all families face. The very best novels are ones that seem to hold a mirror to our souls. This book does so, but in an entertaining and somewhat disturbing way. I absolutely loved it and have found myself pondering the “what ifs” since reading One Step Away.

I am not as engrossed in Princess Diana’s untimely death as the media or others have & still are, but An Accident in August may just very well be an interesting read as it relates to human behavior. Interestingly, many people can provide their hind-sight point of view to any situation, but what would they actually do if they were face to face with the same situation and issues? Which is element that pulls my interest in reading this particular book.

Just finished reading the book and now the podcast… Here’s my thoughts as I was listening to you guys!

**SPOILER ALERT**

– The translation of the French phrase on the tombstone is: “When we speak of the wolf, we see the tail.”

– I think the perspective shift is going to do with time — perhaps going back in time to deal with the characters of Harold Martin (the original owner of the Crag’s Inn) and the French man and perhaps what happened to the old town of Solitary.

– Also — I think since the title of the book is “Gravestone” — that definitely points to the four major gravestones mentioned in this book: Jocelyn’s parents, hers, and Louis-Henri Clerel de Solitaire (who I believe is the original settler perhaps of Solitary). Death is obviously a theme — and the ending also points to that fact — Gravestones are a marker of a life, and there is talk about what Chris is going to do to mark his own life.

– My biggest question right now is the animals. The major ones so far are: the bluebirds around the Crag’s Inn (along with the bluebird that follows Chris), wolves, Midnight, and the dead groundhog.

– ALSO: I want to know if Solitary is somehow connected to events that took place in ISOLATION… The scene where Stephanie wakes up in the middle of the woods right beside a trail that leads to a doors that seem to go underground. As far as I can remember… those were never explained in that book… A connection somehow?

Awesome review! Being a fan of Eric’s since he released Expiration Date, I can’t help but love his unique style of edgy storytelling. As much I wanted to get this book, this review’s about to make me start slobbering at the thought of getting it!

While I have a lot of favorites by Joseph Finder, (I own every book he’s ever writtern under his name) I would have to say that BURIED SECRETS topped them all! It was a real page-turner and impacted me both physically and mentally! Some of my other favorites include Killer Instinct, Company Man, Paranoia, and of course the first book in his Nick Heller series, Vanished.

Vanished is the first book in the series and is also great. I’ve also read Power Play, Killer Instinct, and Paranoia (all stand alones). All are excellent reads!

Precisely what I thought. The series of er, series, really felt with Bones of Makaidos, but I ended up really enjoying Song of the Ovulum. I’m really interested to see what happens with the certain person teaming up with the certain group of people at the end of the book. Should be interesting.
